Entr’ARTS à Banff

Le thème de l'identité est le fil conducteur de mon œuvre artistique depuis maintes années et j’arrive au Banff Centre, Banff, Alberta, avec Regard dans le temps dans le cadre de Entr’ARTS-2013, séminaire multidisciplinaire d’artistes francophones organisé par le RAFA (Regroupement des artistes francophones de l’Alberta). Dès mon arrivée, je mets à profit le milieu social urbain et naturel qu’est Banff et ses environs, désireuse de me pencher sur la question identitaire et nos relations avec autrui. Aussi, je cherche à comprendre comment nous concevons l’espace et le temps, à établir des liens entre l'art actuel et les gens, à mettre en exergue l'échange et la rencontre, (performance in situ). De mini-performances prennent naissance selon les circonstances, le moment et le lieu; mon corps entre en relation avec les gens du milieu.

Avec cette approche sociale, cette interaction avec les gens, le projet en Art action Si la photo est bonne... prend forme. Dans la sphère publique, je vais désormais mettre en relief le privé et le public, le présent et le réel car nous existons de moins en moins dans le réel et de plus en plus dans l'interface, l'écran. Tout en nous rapprochant, nous créons une distance, ce qui nous force à redéfinir notre rapport au monde.

NB - L'artiste-mentor en arts visuels, Pierre Leichner, dont l'interdisciplinarité, l'engagement social et politique sont importants, est des nôtres à Banff. J'avais d'ailleurs eu la chance de faire sa connaissance lors de l'AGA de l'AGAVF et de la rencontre de ARCA, Institutions by Artists qui s’étaient déroulées à Vancouver en novembre 2012.

Entr’ARTS in Banff
Date: August 27 to September 2, 2013

I arrive at the Banff Centre, Banff, Alberta, with the theme of identity, which has been related to my artistic work for many years. It continues in “A Look in time” (Regard dans le temps), my project for Entr’ARTS-2013, a multidisciplinary workshop for francophone artistes organised by RAFA (Regourpement des artsites francophones de l’Alberta). On arriving, I immediately see opportunities to take advantage of the social, urban and natural milieu of the Banff area, a place for performance art to address identity and our relationships with others. I also look for ways to understand and show how we conceive space and time, to establish links between today’s art and people, to do Performance art in situ. Through a series of mini-performances, each conceived according to circumstances, time and location, I interact with people in this milieu.

With this social approach, interacting with people, my new Art Action project, Si la photo est bonne… takes form. I strive to emphasize the private and public within the public sphere, the present and the real, since we are less and less real, and more and more on the interface, the computer screen. As we get closer to each other, we get further apart, which forces us to redefine our relationships to each other and to the world.

Note – The visual artist mentor for this Banff workshop was Pierre Leichner, an inspiring interdisciplinary artist who focusses on social and political engagement. I had met him earlier at the AGAVF’s AGM and ARCA, Institutions by Artists meeting in Vancouver, B.C. in November 2012.
