Projet: D’ici là… /From here to there…

Art action 1 -  Rencontre, parlage et partage…

L’art action est l’aspect vivant des arts visuels actuels qui prennent place dans le temps et l'espace in situ. Je développe des performances qui s’effectuent dans le milieu urbain et collectif, dans la vie des gens, la vie de tous les jours. Ces œuvres éphémères se déroulent dans le « ici et maintenant ».

En cette fin septembre 2017 débute le projet à long terme, Rencontre, parlage et partage… qui s’étendra sur quelques années. À l’intérieur de ce long processus, la première performance s’intitule D’ici là… /From here to there… et a lieu sur l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard et en Nouvelle-Écosse.  

Je scrute le déploiement de la conscience individuelle à travers des actions minimales. Sur un banc public ou un trottoir, dans un parc ou un café, etc…, sans préavis, sans planification, je parle à des individus. Un contact s’effectue et je partage avec eux des idées entourant l’Internet et son usage. Comme objet, j’ai en main un tricot en marche, symbole de notre côté humanitaire, de notre tentative de compréhension. Entre chaque participant(e) et moi un échange verbal a lieu; mon objectif est de discerner l’identité en lien désormais avec le processus électronique. Je m’intéresse à la façon qu’a chacun(e) de se présenter sur Internet, d’identifier son action, son approche, son partage, sa négation, son positivisme… C’est ce dont nous discutons.
Ce long projet met en relief le privé et le public, le présent et le réel. L'écran électronique, tout en nous rapprochant crée une distance, redéfinit notre rapport au monde et à autrui. Je tente de comprendre la nature de ce changement identitaire qui s’effectue de nos jours.

Action Art 1 - To Meet, talk and share…

Art action is the “live” part of current visual arts. It takes place in situ,in time and space. I develop performances that occur in the urban and collective milieu, in our daily life. These ephemeral works of art unwind in the “here and now”. 
           
In late September 2017 my long term project, Rencontre, parlage et partage… starts and will continue for the next few years. The first performance called D’ici là… / From here to there… takes place on Prince Edward Island and in Nova Scotia.

Through casual conversation I seek to learn what people are thinking. Without prior advertising, I approach people on a public bench, park, sidewalk, or café etc. Contact is made and I discuss their ideas about the Internet and identity. In my hands I am knitting a small piece, symbolic of our shared humanity and desire for communication and understanding. Between each participant and me a verbal exchange occurs. My objective is to discuss identity in relation to the electronic process, especially the Internet and social media. We discuss the way each participant presents themselves on the Internet. We examine the pros and cons of their approach, actions, and sharing.

This long term project highlights the private and public spheres, the present and the real. The electronic screen brings us together and sets us apart, redefining our relationship with the world and other people. I endeavor to understand the nature of identity change, via the Internet, that is taking place today.
